Green light for 350-home scheme in Leckhampton

Planning consent has been granted for Miller Homes to build up to 350 new homes on land in Leckhampton.

The green light paves the way for the national housebuilder to begin construction work on a 44-acre parcel of land off Shurdington Road in the south Cheltenham village.

Miller Homes' plans for the scheme include a number of carbon-reducing measures, including the installation of air source heat pumps to all plots, as the primary heating supply to the properties, as opposed to traditional gas boilers.

The housebuilder will also be providing solar panels to a significant number of the homes at the development, which is to be known as Greenway Chase, in addition to EV charging points.

Miller Homes will build the housing at the development in two phases of 175 homes each. There will be a mix of two to five-bedroom properties built, with 70 of the homes on the first phase provided as affordable housing.

Darren Humphreys, managing director of Miller Homes West Midlands, said: "We have worked extremely hard on our plans for the Greenway Chase development in Leckhampton, and it is testament to the team that we are now on the way to delivering these homes.

"Our development includes a variety of energy-efficient features which will not only benefit the residents who ultimately live in our properties but the wider environment across Leckhampton.

"The carbon-reducing measures we are implementing throughout the scheme, notably the introduction of air source heat pumps to all plots, which significantly reduces carbon emissions far greater than existing planning regulations specify, will provide real peace of mind for both existing and new residents in Leckhampton.

"Miller Homes is now looking forward to starting construction work at the development later this year, before releasing the details and prices of our first homes for sale to the public. Those interested can register their details with Miller Homes now, via our website, to keep in touch with our team on the Greenway Chase development."

As part of the planning permission granted for the Leckhampton development, Miller Homes will contribute funding towards primary education, transport and highways, libraries and public maintenance, through a signed Section 106 agreement.

The development will also include its own community orchard, as well as allotments, as part of the green spaces throughout the scheme.

Miller Homes is due to begin construction work on the site in the coming months, with a view to launching the development to the public in late 2024.
