Education company scoops top award

Avantis Education, a classroom technology solution provider based in Gloucester, has been crowned a winner at the prestigious Bett Awards 2024 - a celebration of the most innovative solutions and technologies transforming the lives of students and educators worldwide.

The Bett Awards are a highlight of Bett UK, the world's biggest EdTech event, which took place at London's ExCeL Centre last month. Across the three days, it brought together 30,000 stakeholders - including 10,000 education decision-makers, 600 innovative EdTech and resource solution providers, and 400 speakers.

Produced in association with the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA), the Bett Awards recognise excellence across all realms of EdTech, from digital platforms for monitoring student progress to online resources supporting teacher training.

Avantis Education received the Bett Award in the International Digital Educational Resource category for ClassVR, a groundbreaking virtual, augmented, and mixed reality system designed exclusively for the classroom.

It comprises all the necessary hardware, software, content, tools, training, and support to successfully deploy virtual reality in schools. ClassVR systems are now in tens of thousands of schools across more than 90 countries.

Charlotte Kenny, head of client engagement at Bett, said: "Congratulations to Avantis Education for winning in the International Digital Educational Resource category. I'm so delighted that their innovation, hard work, and dedication to transforming the teaching and learning experience through technology has been recognised.

"The Bett Awards are a benchmark of excellence, and it is important to bring together trailblazing companies from around the globe who can inspire and learn from one another, and to celebrate the incredible impact of their creative solutions."

The award winners were announced on January 24 in a ceremony at The Brewery in London, hosted by stand-up comedian Lucy Porter, and presented onstage with coveted Bett Awards trophies. The full list of winners can be viewed on the Bett Awards website.

This year's Bett show kicked off with world-renowned ballerina Dame Darcey Bussell DBE sharing her passion for promoting the arts in schools through her charity, the DDMIX Trust, and engaging attendees in the magic of dance.

Rt Hon Gillian Keegan MP, the UK's Secretary of State for Education, then delivered an opening address. Afterwards, acclaimed documentary presenter Louis Theroux interviewed award-winning British rapper Loyle Carner about neurodiversity in schools

In a fireside chat, former member of England's national football team Alex Scott MBE discussed building resilience and empowering youth through physical education, and Baroness Floella Benjamin spoke about her time as one of Britain's favourite children's TV presenters.

Bett UK 2024 also saw the return of the show's two other flagship prizes, Kids Judge Bett and the Design4SDGs Design Challenge.

Bett UK 2024 delivered a host of new programmes, including TableTalks and Tech User Labs, which leveraged Bett UK's groundbreaking technology platform enabling educators to collaborate with peers and experts.

The event provided a greater focus on inclusive education, with more on neurodiversity and special education needs and disability, as well as professional development opportunities for teachers to improve their EdTech knowledge and purchasing expertise. Additionally, the programme offered a deeper dive into AI's impact on education.
