Strikes by ASLEF members will hit GWR trains in the county tomorrow (April 6).

The strike by the train drivers' union, which also affects Chiltern, LNER, Northern and TransPennine services, will run for 24 hours from midnight tonight.

Other operators are striking today (April 5) and Monday (April 8). CrossCountry is striking today, which will have an effect on train journeys from the county to Bristol, Birmingham and other parts of the UK.

Thomas Lydon, public affairs manager at Great Western Railway (GWR), said: "On Saturday, a much reduced timetable will be in operation, with the majority of our network having no service whatsoever. Where we able to run trains, they will start later and finish much earlier than usual."

An extremely limited service will operate tomorrow. Services will start at 0700 and must be completed by around 1900.

A very limited service will run only on the following routes between:

• Reading and Oxford

• Reading and Basingstoke

• Westbury and Swindon (peak time only)

• Cardiff and Bristol

• Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple

• Plymouth and Gunnislake

• Penzance and St Ives

Passengers who are intending to travel are advised to check both outward and return journeys.

In addition, Network Rail will also be carrying out emergency engineering work at London Paddington tomorrow, which means there will be no GWR services at all between Paddington and Reading.

As a result of the strikes, there could be disruption through to Tuesday April 9.
