Five Valleys celebrates Oktoberfest this weekend

Five Valleys shopping centre in Stroud will be celebrating Oktoberfest this Friday and Saturday (September 22-23).

There will be a pop-up bar selling a range of German beers accompanied by plenty of cheese - the perfect pairing and kick start to the autumn season.

Oktoberfest is a German tradition which begins mid-September and ends mid-October celebrating authentic German food and crafted beer. The tradition, which is now a national event, started in 1810 when the Bavarian Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese, of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

Armorel Willoughby, owner of Armadeli, will be running a German-themed bar boasting over 12 beers from a unit opposite her deli at the Five Valleys Indoor Market. The bar will be open on Friday evening to accompany the night market and Saturday afternoon.

Armorel said: "I love to get involved in celebrating Oktoberfest and providing our visitors with a taste of this German tradition. We stock a wide range of beers and wines throughout the year but every year for Oktoberfest we enjoy putting on a great choice of international beers to offer our shoppers something a little different.

"Our staff are very knowledgeable and feel passionately about offering an authentic experience."

The bar will offer the six official Oktoberfest brewery beers - Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Spaten, Augustiner, Hofbrau and Lowenbrau. There will also be a number of guest beers such as Giesinger Festbier, Flotzinger Wies'n Marzen, Verdant Fest Bier, Newbarns Festival Bier, Cloudwater Fest Bier and Braybrooke Harvest FestBier.

Guests will be supplied with a scorecard to rate each authentic German beer and will also have the opportunity to purchase their favorite beer to enjoy at home.

Traditional German Oktoberfest music to get shoppers into the festival spirit will be playing throughout the weekend along with bunting on display.

Jack Simpson, centre manager at Five Valleys, said: "We are really looking forward to transforming our indoor market for Oktoberfest.

"It is great to see Armorel taking a lead on the festivities as Armadeli is known for its amazing quality beer, cheeses, antipasti and wine."

"We look forward to welcoming you and seeing our visitors enjoy the atmosphere, cheese and of course beer!"

Five Valleys have also partnered with Armadeli to give shoppers the chance of winning an Oktoberfest beer hamper worth £50.
