Farmer set for 180-mile charity carriage drive
By David Wood | 13th June 2023
This summer Jamie Alcock, a Gloucestershire farmer, will be embarking on a charity carriage drive with his shire horses.
Jamie will be travelling through Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire on a journey to raise funds for the local Samaritans branches in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Hereford and Worcester, as well as for the police and RAFA.
This amazing 180-mile round journey is in memory of Jamie's brother PC John Alcock who sadly died in 2017 - 14 years after he was injured on duty.
Jamie will start his journey from Gloucester Cathedral on Friday, June 23, and will finish at Newent Lakes on Friday, July 14.
In between these dates, he will also be stopping off for day events at Uley Brewery, Westons Cider and Hanbury Countryside Show. There will be an online platform for donations and as he drives along, he will also collect cash donations.
A spokesperson for the Samaritans fundraising team in Gloucester said: "We would really like to get the word out about Jamie's amazing journey with his shire horses so we can get as much support as possible for him and the charities along the way. It would be lovely for our Gloucestershire community to get involved.'
