Autumn folk music series returns to Tewkesbury

A new season of contemporary folk music in Tewkesbury starting in September will see some of the country's leading singer/songwriters return to Tewkesbury.

This Saturday (September 2nd) Steve Ashley will be performing at the Old Baptist Chapel. Steve has long been regarded as one of British folk's finest singer-songwriters.

His reputation for writing contemporary songs inspired by the English Tradition was established in 1974 with his innovative debut album, Stroll On.

Since then his songs have been recorded by many leading folk artists including Fairport Convention, Anne Briggs, Ralph McTell & Wizz Jones, Martin & Jessica Simpson, Show of Hands and O'Hooley & Tidow.

He has also played a significant role in the development of British folk-rock, performing as a lead singer with the first Albion Country Band, then with his own Ragged Robin and various line-ups of The Steve Ashley Band.

He has also performed occasionally with members of Fairport Convention. Steve's 1979 Family Album was revisited and re-released to great acclaim in 2021 by Talking Elephant records.

Doors open 7.15pm, performance starts 7.45pm. All tickets £10 in advance from the John Moore Museum, Church Street, Tewkesbury, or £12 (cash only) on the door if available.
