Take a tour of a hidden gem at Gloucester Cathedral

Discover a beautiful 15th century monastic library and how to care for ancient manuscripts as Gloucester Cathedral invites visitors to join one of its popular Library Tours.

Located high above the main body of the Cathedral, up 38 spiral steps, the library is a hidden gem that was originally part of the Abbey and holds a wonderful collection of books and manuscripts dating back to the 11th century.

Library Tours take place at 10.45am, 11.45am, 1.45pm and 2.45pm. Tickets can be purchased in the Cathedral Gift Shop for £7, under -16s go free.

To complement the extremely popular Library Tours, there will be a series of Conservation and Collections Care Workshops as part of the Cathedral's Project Pilgrim engagement programme this summer.

Following a brief tour of the Cathedral's beautiful library, the sessions will start with an overview of the purpose of conservation and the role of preservation in caring for the long-term future of the collections housed in the library.

The next Library Tours take place on Saturday, July 22 with the theme of Bibles. A special display of books and documents will focus on bibles including the Coverdale bible which once belonged to Oliver Cromwell.
