Sheep flock to cathedral to launch Royal Three Counties Show

Where: Three Counties Showground, Malvern

When: June 16 to 18, 2017

Champion rare breeds and their farmers, including Countryfile's Adam Henson, gathered to launch this year's Royal Three Counties Show at Gloucester Cathedral.

Iconic Gloucestershire breeds were rounded up to celebrate the county's premier livestock event which takes place from June 16 to 18 at the Three Counties Showground.

A Gloucester Bull, a Gloucestershire Old Spots Pig and a pair of Cotswold Lion Sheep were shepherded into the Garth, the Cathedral cloister's garden, together with a collection of representatives from the county as they paid homage to the show's Gloucestershire heritage as it is the Host County this year.

Diana Walton, Head of Shows at the Three Counties, said: "This year is a truly exciting year for Gloucestershire as we showcase the very best the county has to offer.

"Our aim for the Royal Three Counties Show is to invite show-goers to 'Meet the Countryside'. We want to celebrate our wonderful rural communities and demonstrate not just their livestock but also their diversity, beauty and sense of community.

"We're looking forward to welcoming farmers, families and fun-seekers to join us in championing British farming and rural life."

Every June, the Royal Three Counties Show celebrates British farming alongside fine food and family entertainment.

The Right Reverend Rachel Treweek, the Bishop of Gloucester, said: "It's a real pleasure for Gloucester Cathedral to host the launch of what is an incredibly important event in the county's calendar.

"Agriculture is at the heart of Gloucestershire and we are proud to be part of such a thriving farming community and heritage.

"I must say we are not used to having such magnificent beasts as these visiting our cloisters but they have behaved impeccably. I am sure that Gloucestershire will be well represented at this year's Royal Three Counties Show."

Tickets for The Royal Three Counties Show are now on sale. Advanced adult tickets cost from £19 and from £16 for Three Counties members. Family and child tickets are also available and tickets can be purchased on the gate.
