Landmark bank building could become restaurant

One of Cheltenham's best-known buildings could be converted into a top notch restaurant.
Pegasus Group has submitted a planning application on behalf of Troia UK Restaurants to change Lloyds Bank's Rotunda building in Montpellier into an Ivy restaurant when the bank branch closes this summer.
But the restaurant chain say they will go to great lengths to retain the historic character of the Rotunda which is in a conservation area.
The planning application for change of use says: ""The proposed works see the conversion of the building into a restaurant (with ancillary bar), the implementation of which has been designed to preserve the significant historic fabric of the building, whilst removing and restoring those modern elements which have previously been incorporated into the building.
"The proposed restaurant will create employment for approximately 100 - 120 staff (full-time equivalents).
"The general appearance of the building will remain unchanged by the proposed development and the key elements of the Listed Building (such as the dome and internal plasterwork) will be retained and enhanced through the removal of previously unsympathetic additions associated with the former use of the building as a bank.
"The proposed external signage to the building (both to the front and rear) is considered to represent a subtle and sympathetic addition to the street scene in line with the sensitive historic context of the Grade I Listed Building within the Conservation Area."
