Footwear company founded in 1857 is under threat

Hundreds of jobs are reportedly at risk at a 160-year-old footwear chain.

According to a number of reports, the owner of Jones Bootmaker is trying to find a buyer for the High Street chain to save it from administration..

Jones Bootmaker currently has 103 stores in the UK, including one in Cheltenham and another in Cirencester, and employs nearly 1,200 staff.

Founded in 1857 by Alfred and Emma Jones, it was bought for £12million by private equity company Alteri in October 2015.

Reports today suggest that after attempts to turn the chain's fortunes around faltered, Alteri and advisers KPMG are in talks with potential buyers to sell Jones Bootmakers as a going concern or through pre-pack administration.
