UPDATE: Warrant extended for murder suspect

A warrant of further detention has been granted in connection with a man who has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The 63-year-old from Cheltenham was arrested on Sunday evening (April 14) and at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Monday (April 15) an additional 36 hours of detention was authorised.

Police had been called to an incident at a property on Welland Court at around 7pm on Sunday.

An 80-year-old man was found to have sustained fatal wounds within a property and was declared dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday (April 16).

A 75-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of murder was released from custody yesterday and he will face no further police action.

The investigation, which is being led by the Major Crime Investigation Team, continues and anyone who has information in relation to what happened is asked to come forward.
