School children forge links with older generation

Children from Stow-on-the-Wold Primary School have been sharing how they feel about the area they live in.

Pupils entered a LOVE Stow art competition and drew, painted and etched images of places they love including Ella's Toy Shop, Roly's Fudge Pantry and the Cotswold Sweet Company.

The winning piece was a beautiful interpretation of The Sheep on Sheep Street by 8 year old Dolly Siddall.

The creative pieces were then displayed at Brio Retirement Living's Beechwood Park development in Stow for locals, parents and residents to enjoy.

Elle Gower, retirement living advisor at Beechwood Park, said: "Stow-on-the-Wold Primary School has a wonderful relationship with both our staff and residents, and we were astounded by the beautiful pieces of art they produced. They really are a talented bunch of children!

"It was very hard to select just three winners as the standard was so high. We welcomed Eva Leighton, 9, Ella Goode, 10, and Dolly Siddall to collect their prizes of art sets, with a voucher for a meal at the on-site Slate & Grain brasserie, bar and coffee lounge for Dolly and her family, as the overall winner.

"Our homeowners loved chatting to the winners about what inspired them to draw their interpretations of LOVE Stow, and a fabulous time was enjoyed by all."

The two organisations are keen to continue celebrating Stow's budding art talent, with plans for future collaborations and competitions. The children have become regular visitors to Brio, sharing poetry and festive events at the development.

Rebecca Scutt, headteacher at Stow-on-the-Wold Primary School, said: "We have a strong relationship with Beechwood Park through our many creative endeavours - and were thrilled with the feedback from residents on the children's artwork.

"Our winning pupils loved going to Beechwood Park to collect their prizes. It's always a lovely experience for the two very different generations to get together and have a chat!

"We love the bond we've forged with Beechwood Park, and it's been a fabulous way to celebrate all that's great about our community and the beautiful area we're all a part of."
