Proud of the shirt! Women's team scores with England scouts

You might say it's been a walk in the park.

The first outing for the Walking Football Association's South West region women over 60s team – which now proudly wears the Punchline-Gloucester.com logo in the wake of our kit sponsorship deal last December – has been a cracking success.

So much so that England scouts have signed up two of the team's players!

Julia Tibbs, spokeswoman, told Punchline-Gloucester.com: "We had the first round of the Women's Super League on Saturday at the University of Gloucestershire and it was absolutely brilliant - our first proper super league. We really held our own and the team played really well - all looking really smart in the new kit."

She added that a huge accolade for the achievements of the team came with specific news for players Lyn McLoughlin and Karen Peacock.

Scouts for the England Over 60s Women squad who were attending the WFA's Women's Super League Regional Tournament spotted the talents of the pair – and have now signed them up for the England squad.

Julia added: "Being selected to play and train for the squad is just amazing, and we are so pleased for them as a recognition of the hard work put in."

Gillian Burgess, director of WFA, said the sport was moving at an incredible pace and new roles are now being sought: "We are looking to expand our coaching team, as the Southwest 60s have now transitioned into two teams."

Expressions of interest are being invited for the added roles of a manager, assistant manager and coach. Gillian can be contacted via gillianburgess@thewfa.co.uk.
