Ebay takes on Vinted

Ebay has dropped selling fees for second-hand clothes, in direct competition with apps like Depop and Vinted.

Buying and selling old clothes on Ebay is now completely free and will no longer incur a 12.8% fee, as reported by This is Money.

The auction site said the change was designed to reduce waste and move consumers towards a circular economy. It added that free listing will make selling the nation's billions of pounds' worth of unwanted clothes less of a chore.

Other fashion items listed on Ebay, including jewellery, handbags and trainers, aren't covered by the changes and will still incur seller fees.

The move means Ebay will be competing with second-hand clothing apps like Vinted and Depop on more of a level playing field. Both apps, which are particularly popular with Gen Z, have waived seller fees.

Vinted doesn't charge to list or sell items, but does charge buyers a 'protection fee', which varies with the price of the item.

Depop used to charge a 10% seller fee, which it dropped last month. Now sellers pay a 2.9% payment processing fee and 30p.
