Cirencester town centre to deliver improved parking

Gloucestershire County Council has been working with Cirencester Town Council to deliver parking improvements to parking and traffic control in Cirencester Market Place and the town centre. The changes will come into effect from Thursday April 4.

The proposals were formed through feedback from informal engagement exercises in 2021 and support from the town council.

The plans include extra parking bays in the town, along with additional yellow lines and restricted parking areas to ensure there is regular turnover of parking spaces, providing better short-stay access to shops and businesses in the town centre.

Other measures include additional pay and display facilities in Castle Street, Dyer Street and Cricklade Street which have a two-hour maximum stay, with no change in parking charges, but which allow a 20-minute free period for very short-term visits, for example picking up a prescription.

There are additional and amended disabled bays with a maximum three-hour stay to protect kerbside space for blue badge holders.

Additional or amended loading bays are also included in Castle Street, Dyer Street and Cricklade Street, along with a motorcycle bay and amended taxi bay in Market Place.

Cycle parking is available in Cricklade Street near its junction with Market Street and there will be a reduction in waiting/loading restrictions from 8 am to 6 pm.

More information on all the measures being introduced can be found online at Gloucestershire County Council.
