Amazon to cut hundreds of jobs

Amazon is to cut hundreds of jobs at its cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The latest round of job cuts will hit global services, sales and marketing, as well as roles in the physical stores technology team, as reported by the BBC.

This is despite AWS growing and now representing 14% of Amazon's total revenue.

AWS said the decision was 'difficult but necessary' and it is continuing to hire staff, invest and use its resources in the best possible way for customers.

It said there are thousands of jobs available, and it is working to find roles internally for employees affected by the cuts.

As of the end of last year, Amazon had more than 1.5 million full-time and part-time staff around the world, not including temporary staff and contractors.

The tech giant laid off hundreds of people earlier this year across its subsidiary businesses, including Prime Video and Twitch.
