Chance to hear one of Gloucestershire's finest

Much-loved Gloucestershire singer and musician Johnny Coppin is gearing up for his first concert in Stroud this year.

Johnny will be teaming up with Paul Burgess (violin and recorder) and Geoff March (cello and vocals) for the concert at Lansdown Hall on Friday, April 26, at 7.30pm.

There'll be new and recent material; some of Johnny's popular Gloucestershire songs with words by local poets Laurie Lee and Frank Mansell; as well as interpretations of two Decameron classics that haven't been sung for years.

Johnny's gorgeous and seemingly effortless vocals have graced the UK acoustic scene since the emergence of Decameron in the 1970s.

An experienced performer, accompanying himself on piano and guitar, he is a talented songwriter and a fine interpretative singer.

Johnny has recorded over 14 albums including The Winding Stair, Borderland, Edge of Day with writer Laurie Lee, The Gloucestershire Collection, five Christmas albums, and his latest release River of Dreams.

Johnny also presented the Acoustic Music Show on BBC Radio Gloucestershire for over 20 years.

Paul Burgess is a longstanding musical collaborator, including regular participation in Johnny's annual Christmas tour. A classically trained recorder-player and defiantly un-classical violinist, widely considered to be one of the leading exponents of English fiddle playing, he also has a talent for deadpan humour. A magical combination at any time of the year.

Geoff March on cello and vocals is also a longstanding collaborator. A fellow member of the band Decameron, he regularly plays in Johnny's concerts and Christmas shows, and features on many of his albums. After Decameron, Geoff took up a successful career in arboriculture for the following 35 years, and has been a singer with The Cappella Singers chamber choir for around 30 years.
