Paramedic students make a difference at Lilian Faithfull Care

Sixteen paramedic students from the University of Gloucestershire spent time working at Lilian Faithfull Care in March.

The students were on two-week placements in four of the organisation's care homes, as part of their degree course.

They shadowed the care teams and took the time to learn about communication with people living with dementia. Placements included studying residents' care plans, chatting with residents about their pastimes and doing activities together.

Residents and staff all really appreciated the time the students spent with them. One student said: "Everyone is treated with respect and dignity here."

Another student emailed to say: "I would just like to say thanks to you and all staff for all your support. I learnt a lot, especially around people with dementia which was valuable to me. All staff were friendly, helpful and supportive."

Lilian Faithfull Care was grateful to the students for their time, support and compassion towards residents. The organisation plans to welcome more paramedic students to its care homes in the future.
