A University of Gloucestershire lecturer is the senior producer of a new BBC Radio 4 true crime series.

Lady Killers with Lucy Worsley is a historical podcast and radio series, in which Lucy and a team of female detectives investigate the ordinary lives and extraordinary crimes of Victorian women from a contemporary feminist perspective.

Julia Hayball, senior lecturer in audio production within the university's School of Creative Industries, said: "As someone who is absolutely passionate about radio and storytelling, it was a real pleasure to be the senior producer of such a thought-provoking series as Lady Killers.

"Lucy, who is really engaging host, works with an all-female detective team of historians, lawyers, journalists and psychologists to dig deeper into the social issues and circumstances that helped to create these murderesses.

"Among the 10 stories, Lucy uncovers two of Britain's most notorious serial killers: Amelia Dyer, who is thought to have killed hundreds of babies and children entrusted to her care by desperate mothers; and Mary Ann Cotton, who murdered three of her husbands and numerous children and step-children."

Julia is an experienced audio producer with more than 25 years in BBC radio, producing many of Radio 2's daytime programmes, and has worked across a variety of news, specialist music and documentary programmes.

The series is now available to listen to as a boxset on BBC Sounds and is broadcast every Wednesday at 11.30am on BBC Radio 4.
