Gloucestershire student among contenders for World Illustration Awards

University of Gloucestershire student Holly McCann is thrilled that her work is being showcased at the 2022 World Illustration Awards.

The awards celebrate the creativity of illustrators from around the globe.

Holly, a final year BA (Hons) graphic design student within the university's School of Arts, has been longlisted for the advertising category, after impressing industry experts with her designs for a hypothetical skincare brand, Clowds.

To promote Clowds, Holly produced a series of illustrations to raise awareness of the brand as part of an advertising campaign, including TV commercials, billboards, websites and social media.

Holly McCann said: "I chose to create a skincare brand aimed towards black women, because there aren't many skincare products out there targeted toward their skin.

"My 'zine' (self-published work of texts and images) promotes the brand's products and the classes they run for women to create their own personalised skincare for themselves, where they can also make friends and build a community together.

"I am so happy to have been chosen for the longlist in the World Illustration Awards 2022. My project can be seen on their website now. It is so exciting to see my work alongside other artists who I look up to and admire."

Claudia Brewster, course leader for the BA (Hons) graphic design course, said: "We are extremely proud of Holly for receiving this international recognition of her design and illustration skills."

The winners of the 2022 World Illustration Awards - led by the Association of Illustrators - will be announced in November this year.

Holly is also among the students taking part in Green Light, a show promoting the work of students on the BA (Hons) graphic design course, at the university's Park Campus until June 26.
