Students celebrate A Level success

Students, parents and school staff across Gloucestershire are celebrating their A Level, T Level and BTEC results today (August 15).

At the King's School in Gloucester, appropriately in an Olympic year, there are very strong results A Level from some of the school's strongest athletes.

Over 66% of the grades are at A*-B level, with over a third of all grades being A/A* or equivalent. In the increasingly popular BTEC sport course, all students achieved Distinction or starred Distinction in every part of the course, which equates to a clean sweep of A*/A grades at A Level.

High achieving athletes at King's School include; Raph, Tom, Harry and Leo who all play rugby at Academy level; Patrick, Lucy and Charlie who have all had successful years in cross-country running; Lottie who has played National League Hockey for Gloucester Hockey Club and James who has a Porsche Scholarship and has raced at Silverstone and Abu Dhabi whilst studying for his A Levels.

David Morton, headmaster, said: "I am very pleased indeed with this year's A Level and BTEC sport results. King's has always been a school that recognises success beyond academic results alone. However, this year it is excellent to see that positive results have been achieved by the pupils alongside their sport, music and drama activities too.

"This cohort has such a rich and varied set of interests: it is clear that they will thrive in their next stage of education or work. Additionally, as strong team players with kind natures, we are proud to see them move on to exciting new challenges in work, university or training: I know they will add great value wherever they go next."

At Cleeve School near Cheltenham, Ben Slatter, head of school, said: "It feels incredibly rewarding for us as staff to celebrate today with our year 13 students who have put so very much into the past two years, and to see the bright futures that they are moving onto.

"We are very proud of the achievements of all of our students, however within these results there are some exceptional individual performances that deserve particular mention. Our top performing student at A level was Ellis Gajewiak, who continued his outstanding achievement from GCSE (all grade 9s), to achieve four A* grades in maths, further maths, biology and chemistry. Ellis will be going on to study maths at Warwick University.

"Other students achieving all A or A* grades included Izzy Hawkins (going on to study law), Sam Bozwell (going on to study history), Cora Bolton (who will be studying zoology) and Milly Tandy who will be studying art.

"We are extremely proud of a number of students who have overcome significant hurdles in their lives throughout their time in education and have showed great resilience in order to achieve successful results. The positive results achieved by these students are testament to their character and determination, as well as the support provided by school staff."

Year 13 students at SGS College Berkeley Green UTC are celebrating an outstanding set of results this morning. A large number of the year group applied to study STEM subjects at university and were successful in securing their first-choice places. After a disrupted GCSE experience due to the pandemic, our students we able to demonstrate their high-level academic knowledge and professional technical skills during the past two years. Their dedication to learning and ambitious attitudes have been inspiring.

"Our students are leaving us not only with brilliant qualifications, but also with the personal and professional skills they need to flourish in their future careers."
