SGS College salon to feature on Channel 5

The hair and beauty department at SGS College's Stroud campus is set to feature in a documentary.

The department was filmed by Channel 5 for its next series of Bargain Brits on Benefits. The programme focuses on how people can save a lot of money by making small changes to their lifestyles.

The film crew contacted the college, as they wanted to highlight the affordable range of hair and beauty treatments on offer to the public at a fraction of the cost of a typical high street salon.

From nail extensions to tanning and hair styling, waxing to massage and facials, the treatments are performed by students to the highest industry standards and are offered at extremely competitive prices, under the supervision of fully qualified lecturing staff.

Michelle Parker, who has just completed her Level 3 qualification in hairdressing, was filmed giving a client a shampoo, cut and blow dry in one of the college's purpose-built hair salons.

Michelle Parker said: "I've loved the course at SGS, especially the practical element and being able to work with members of the public in the salons.

"It's given me such a good insight into what it would be like working in a professional salon and has also increased my confidence, by pleasing clients and giving them the results they wanted. Seeing them leave the salon with a big smile on their faces is so rewarding!"

SGS offers practical programmes, giving learners a choice of exciting career opportunities within the beauty therapy, hairdressing, make-up and complementary therapy industries.

The diverse range of employment options includes work in salons, spas, TV, film, hotels, cruise ships, health farms and self-employment.
