Retired people going back to work

Rising household bills mean people are coming out of retirement and going back to work.

The latest figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show the highest number of over-65s in work ever, as reported by The Sun.

There were 1.468 million people of retirement age in work in June 2022 - an increase of 173,000 on the previous three months.

Most of the older people were taking on a small number of hours, rather than going back to work full-time.

The figures showed that pub, bar and restaurant work, offering short shifts, were particularly popular with retired people.
