New SGS College Green Skills Bootcamps
By Sarah Wood | 5th September 2024
Following the success of its recent Green Skills Bootcamps, SGS College has announced additional dates for these popular courses.
As the UK intensifies its efforts towards achieving net zero, the need to upskill in green technologies and sustainable practices is becoming increasingly critical.
Skills Bootcamps are a government initiative, designed to provide flexible learning opportunities for adults aged 19+, enabling them to gain vital new skills in renewable technologies.
The new round of Skills Bootcamps will be available from October 2024 through to March 2025 and will include two distinct courses.
Skills Bootcamp in Air Source Heat Pumps
Participants will receive two Level 3 qualifications on completion, equipping them with the skills needed to install and maintain air source heat pumps.
Skills Bootcamp in Solar PV Systems
This course provides training in the installation and maintenance of small scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, culminating in two Level 3 qualifications.
Hewer Facilities Management Ltd, a company specialising in building services, recently sent engineers to the SGS bootcamps. Staff gained qualifications in photovoltaic systems and energy storage, which aligns with the company's commitment to staying at the forefront of new technologies.
Tabitha Penny, the company's marketing and business development manager, said: "Having recently achieved our PAS 2030 accreditation, and with our ongoing commitment to providing excellent service, we have taken a proactive step by sending five of our engineers to SGS to enhance their expertise.
"They have successfully obtained their Level 3 award in the installation and maintenance of small-scale photovoltaic systems and Level 3 award in electrical energy storage systems. This initiative demonstrates our dedication to staying ahead of the curve in new technologies and methods, ensuring we futureproof our business by having the right skill sets in place to support the work that we do."
Laura Gaiger, head of projects and business development at SGS College, said: "With the UK's ambition of reaching net zero by 2050, there is a huge amount of work to do, and programmes like this will enable people to learn more about the different career opportunities available to them. We have progression routes for learners to gain further qualifications, to either upskill in their current role, or retrain to work in the green skills sector."
As well as the Green Skills Bootcamps, SGS College will also be offering a new course, for those looking to enter the green skills sector. The Introduction to Green Skills Careers course will be delivered face to face by an industry expert and will teach learners about the different career opportunities within the sector, as well as how to seek the required qualifications and experience.
