Keep communities safe - become a firefighter!

If you want to save lives and help keep communities in Gloucestershire safe, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) would like to hear from you.

A recruitment process is being launched by GFRS on Friday (November 1), for full-time firefighters to join the service.

There are approximately 20 firefighter positions available.

Many people don't realise they've already got the skills needed to be a firefighter - from talking to children in schools, helping neighbours and supporting their community, to attending events and working with local people.

GFRS is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all members of our community.

Although firefighters are required to have a good standard of fitness and practical ability, having a disability will not prevent you from applying, as reasonable adjustments can be made.

Full training is provided for successful applicants. Applicants need to be over 18 years old, but there is no maximum age limit. Other criteria include being reasonably fit, being able to swim and living within a 50 mile radius of the Gloucestershire border.

The recruitment window closes on Monday, November 18.

Mark Preece, chief fire officer at GFRS, said: "If you would like to play your part in helping to keep communities in our county safe, and help to save lives, we would love to hear from you. Being a firefighter is a rewarding and fulfilling role, where you help to give something back to your community. We welcome people from all backgrounds so please apply if you are interested in joining Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service."

Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member at Gloucestershire County Council with responsibility for the fire and rescue service, said: "As a former firefighter myself, I know that being involved in the fire and rescue service can give a great sense of pride, knowing you are making a difference in your community. The recruitment of more firefighters will help us to continue our improvement journey, so if you feel you have the right attributes, please get in touch."

More information is available on the GFRS website.
