Gloucestershire schools triumph in rankings

Gloucestershire schools once again feature highly in the annual Sunday Times guide to schools.

Topping the Parent Power list for Gloucestershire is Pate's Grammar School in Cheltenham. With 95.4 per cent of A Level results for 2022 at A*-B and 95 per cent of GCSEs at 9-7, it is the number 1 secondary school in the South West and number 6 in the UK.

The school is the only state school to have received The Sunday Times School of the Year award twice.

Russell Ellicott, headteacher, told The Sunday Times: "The best schools are the happiest schools. It's about setting the right culture, and communication is key. Here we cajole, support and celebrate, but always keep an eye on the welfare of pupils - and teachers."

Ranking third in the South West and 39th in the UK, is Sir Thomas Rich's School in Gloucester, with 85.4 per cent of A Level results at A*-B.

Also making the UK top 100 are Stroud High School at number 78 and Denmark Road High School at 100.

The remaining grammar schools in the county - Marling School, Ribston Hall High School and The Crypt School are all ranked inside the top 200 for the UK.

The South West's Comprehensive School of the Year is The Cotswold School in Bourton-on-the-Water, which is ranked at 202 nationally.

Cheltenham Ladies' College was named as the number 1 independent school in the South West and is ranked at number 37 nationally.
