Gloucestershire schoolkids enjoy chapter and verse on housebuilding

To celebrate Children's Book Week next week, Barratt Homes has donated a collection of We Can Build books to a Gloucestershire primary school.

To help the children celebrate books and authors and encourage young people to discover the joy in reading, the firm has donated the books to Great Oldbury Primary Academy in Stonehouse.

Barratt Homes' contracts manager, Pete Donnachie, recently visited pupils at Great Oldbury Primary Academy to captivate their enthusiasm for construction and give them a chance to ask questions and meet a real life 'Bob the Builder'.

We Can Build was written by Barratt Homes ASPIRE graduates, as part of the Prince's Trust charity Million Marker Challenge. The Prince's Trust believes that every young person should have the chance to embrace exciting opportunities. It helps 11- to 30-year-olds find the tools and confidence to take on courses and start careers. All money raised from the proceeds of the book will go to the Prince's Trust charity.

The books are both a fun and educational tool, designed for Key Stage 1 pupils to educate them about the built environment, inspiring the future generation of the industry.

Andrea Pilgrim, sales director for Barratt Bristol, said: "Illustrating real professions with fun characters will hopefully bring to life just how rewarding a career in housebuilding can be. It was a pleasure to make this donation and we hope we've inspired the next generation of architects, quantity surveyors and site managers."

Hayley Hall, head of Great Oldbury Primary Academy, said: "We are always keen to broaden our pupils' horizons when it comes to thinking about what they want to do when they grow up. This book is an excellent way to bring the construction industry alive for them. We love it."

Barratt Homes has a range of two, three and four bedroom homes at Great Oldbury, which are part of a new community just outside Stonehouse. The development includes play areas, sports pitches and a local centre, as well as the brand new and Great Oldbury Primary Academy.
