Five courses to get us through lockdown 2

With national lockdown here once again, it's important to keep our bodies and brains active, while taking care of our mental health.

With this in mind, SGS College is recommending five free part-time courses to join during lockdown. Each course is available online and could set you on the path for a brand new hobby or even career in the future.

These courses are able to offer additional weekly support calls, if required. If you are new to studying online or feel you would benefit from one-to-one phone support, then it's a great way to help you get most out of your learning.

Principles for Digital Skills in Employment

Covid-19 has accelerated the demand for digital skills in the workplace and at home. This online course will equip learners with an understanding and knowledge of the digital skills needed day to day and how to communicate effectively using technology. The course also takes a look at how to protect data and devices.

You will achieve a Level 2 Certificate in Principles for Digital Skills in Employment once you have completed this course.

Mindfulness Meditation

Designed to help relieve stress and anxiety, the college's mindful meditation classes are running throughout lockdown online and aim to provide focused relaxation.

Self-care is more important than ever, and the focused techniques learnt within this class could lengthen attention spans, reduce age-related memory loss and overall provide you relief and calmness, just what's needed in times of heighten anxieties caused by Covid-19.

Equality and Diversity

Learning about equality and diversity in your community, in society, and in the workplace has never been more important. By developing your understanding of others, you can celebrate differences and recognise the benefits that equality can bring to your life and the lives of those around you.

This course offers a Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity once completed.

Awareness of Mental Health Problems

We know that a consequence of these challenging times will be the effect on the population's mental health. Therefore, it's important to fully understand mental health and how you can support those around you. This course is fully online and looks at subjects including stress, depression, dementia and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Sow Grow and Save

If this year has got you thinking about being more sustainable and resilient in terms of diet, health, exercise, money and connection to nature then Sow Grow and Save is the course for you.

This online course helps get you started and growing your own produce for a better quality of life. Learning why we grow, prepping, planning, propagation and day to day care of your crop. The course benefits from the college's virtual online classrooms delivery model, which allows learners to interact live with fellow learners and teachers.
