Students, parents and school staff across Gloucestershire are celebrating GCSE results today (August 15).
At Cleeve School near Cheltenham, this year's GCSE students have surpassed 2023's record results and shown a superb commitment to their studies.
A record percentage of Cleeve School students gained grades 9-8, 9-7 and 9-4. A quarter of all grades were at grade 7, 8 or 9.
Progress in English and maths was strong - with 75% of Cleeve students gaining a grade 4 or above in both English and maths and 55% gaining a grade 5 or above.
Cleeve student Mahi Cantilal achieved a phenomenal eight grade 9s and one grade 8 and was also one of the highest performing health and social care students nationally - gaining close to full marks on way to her Distinction*.
Mr Ben Slatter, head of KS4/5, said: "We are delighted with another set of excellent results achieved by our year 11 students. Our year 11 students have bought into both our teaching philosophies and our support mechanisms around the preparation for their exams. They conducted themselves with great fun, humour and a strong work ethic.
"I would also like to give huge credit to both our staff here at Cleeve and the parents and guardians who have supported these young people over the course of their GCSEs.
"I would like to give a special mention to a number of students who, through the support of Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service, have managed to secure exceptional results to open pathways to their futures despite health challenges."
Year 11 students at Henley Bank in Brockworth were also celebrating their results today.
Danny Pollard achieved six grade 9s, two grade 8s, a grade 6 and a distinction in his GCSE exams and is going to study maths, Spanish and physics at Henley Bank Sixth Form.
Erin Middleton achieved a grade 9, three grade 8s, three grade 7s, a grade 6 and a merit as well as a grade 5 in her GCSE exams and is going to The Crypt School to study psychology, politics and history.
Stephen Derry, headteacher, said: "It is a brilliant year of results for Henley Bank High School and really highlights all of the hard work that has gone into the school over the last few years. The students in year 11 worked exceptionally well and deserve all of this success.
"These results will open up so many opportunities for these students in their next stage of their life. This is particularly the case as we open the Henley Bank High School Sixth Form in September 2024. The GCSE results achieved by our students will allow them to go on to either remain studying A Levels at Henley Bank or go on to their next destination.
"A massive thank you and well done to all of the students and the staff that supported them in achieving these results."
