College celebrates outstanding student achievement

Cirencester College held its annual awards ceremony to celebrate outstanding individual student achievement this week.

More than 50 current and former students, as well as local employers, received awards for outstanding personal achievement and contribution to the college and the community.

The awards ceremony, held in the college theatre, was attended by around 150 guests, including staff, students, governors, sponsors and family and friends.

College principal Jim Grant welcomed guests and highlighted the kaleidoscope of achievements, which reflected the range of education provided by the college.

He congratulated the students on their individual successes, the resilience they had shown despite the challenge of Covid and thanked them for their contribution to the college.

Jim also spoke about the future of the college, including the opening next year of the new T-level building and the brand-new Art Loft.

Peter Holmes, chair of corporation, congratulated the award winners and wished them every success for the future.

Guest of honour was doctor and Cirencester College alumni, Christine Cadman. Using her own experiences, Christine gave an inspirational speech, which touched the hearts of award winners and the wider audience too.

She spoke of own fears of failure and her struggles with imposter syndrome and how she overcame them to finish her studies and start her career in medicine.

Her message was that whatever students had achieved, they had earned it and deserved their success. She congratulated the award winners and handed out the prizes and certificates.

Current performing arts students, Aimee and Alahna, gave emotional performances of ABBA's Slipping Through my Fingers and Lana Del Rey's Young and Beautiful throughout the ceremony.
