Apprenticeships and diplomas for teaching assistants
By Sarah Wood | 26th September 2023
Adult Education in Gloucestershire offers teaching, training and apprenticeships to people supporting teaching and learning in schools.
The organisation works with employers to support and develop the key knowledge, skills and behaviours for teaching assistants.
Its team of trainer assessors are sector specialists recruited from the education sector, enabling Adult Education in Gloucestershire to offer a bespoke service for schools.
Schools should contact the team at adedapps@gloucestershire.gov.uk or call 01452 583800 to find out more about apprenticeships, discuss their needs and take the next steps to recruit an apprentice.
Level 3 teaching assistant apprenticeship
The teaching assistant apprenticeship is designed to provide the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be an effective support to the teacher in primary, special or secondary education. It is ideal for those teaching assistants with some responsibility for the children they support and who would like to progress their career to a more senior role.
They will gain knowledge, skills and behaviours to demonstrate being good role models, act with honesty and integrity, take part in team meetings; contribute to planning and class activities; whilst promoting fundamental British values through spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and positive behaviours to contribute to developing pupil progress and development.
Level 2 certificate in supporting teaching and learning in schools
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC certificate in supporting teaching and learning in schools is a combined knowledge and practice qualification for those support staff roles that directly support teaching and learning, for example teaching assistants or learning support assistants.
It is designed to provide:
• Education and training for those with a responsibility to support teaching and learning within educational settings
• Opportunities for those supporting teaching and learning in schools to achieve a nationally-recognised Level 2 vocational qualification
• The knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to provide effective support for teaching and learning in educational settings
• Opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.
The diploma is fundable via the Adult Education budget. Get in touch at learn@gloucestershire.gov.uk to find out more.
