MP opens new accommodation centre for trainee pilots

Young people training to become airline pilots in Gloucestershire are moving to a brand new accommodation centre in Cheltenham.

Alex Chalk, MP for Cheltenham, formally opened the 84-bedroom site for Skyborne Airline Academy, an airline training school based at Gloucestershire Airport.

The Lansdown Road centre will be a home away from home for those beginning their career on Skyborne's Integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) course. Each trainee will have their own ensuite bedroom, with kitchens, laundry facilities and large common rooms available for group study or to wind down after flying.

Ian Cooper, chief operating officer, Skyborne, said: "The opening of our new accommodation centre marks a real milestone for Skyborne. Cheltenham is such a great place to study and live, and the accommodation is only a five-minute walk to the town centre. It's really exciting to see our students already starting to explore all the local area has to offer."

In recognition of their achievements, each of the halls of residence are named after trainees and graduates from the academy's first course which began in April 2019. They include Christopher Coles, Dave Fisher, Alisha Jassar, James Kirk, Matt Langridge and Adam Prince.

James Kirk, integrated ATPL trainee at Skyborne, said: "I loved living in Cheltenham during my pilot training and the new accommodation is in a perfect place for future students. There's so much going on nearby and it's really enjoyable to fly from Gloucestershire Airport."
