New King’s Walk store unveiled

If today's opening was anything to go by King's Walk's newest store could end up creating more than the 11 new jobs it has already produced.

Word had clearly gotten around and shoppers were out in force to be first through the door of the Deichmann shoe (and handbag) shop.

Europe's largest shoe retailer has moved into the former HMV Store in the popular shopping centre, which is the midst of an exciting year of redevelopment which will see it announce other new retail names.

Peter White, centre manager for King's Walk Gloucester said: "Deichmann arrival in Gloucester was brilliant news for the city and has clearly caused some excitement - which is what our plans for King's Walk are all about."

He Added: "It's great news for King's Walk that another premium brand has chosen to come here. It highlights the future of the centre is looking bright, with many more store openings planned."

Uzair Mohammed, the manager of Gloucester's newest store, said: "We were really excited about moving here - about helping bring this store back to life for King's Walk and bringing our big brand here.

"We cater for everyone - we have shoes for ladies, for kids, formal leather shoes and some exciting brands too."

Deichmann has 3,700 stores across the globe. Work began to fit out the 4,800 square foot store in May.

Deichmann is known for its 'fast track shopping' concept, with all shoes and sizes instantly available on the shop floor so customers don't have to wait for assistance and can try on the style of their choice.

Planned improvements to King's Walk by owners Reef Group, in partnership with Gloucester City Council, include more new and remodelled shop fronts, refurbished car parking, addition of public toilets and upgrading of Eastgate Street.

The plans will complement the wider Kings Quarter scheme, which will see the area transformed with improvements to Kings Square, Gloucester Station and construction of the new Transport Hub.
