Iconic Cotswold pub undergoes major refurbishment

The Lamb Inn, one of the Cotswolds' most historic pubs located in Great Rissington, is undergoing a significant refurbishment ahead of its relaunch this October under new management.

Dating back to the 1600s, The Lamb has long been a cornerstone of the village. Now, new managers, married couple Elliot Cree and Kathleen Cree-Vincent, in partnership with Brakspear Brewery, are investing tens of thousands of pounds into the pub to secure its future and create a beautiful space for both locals and visitors.

As reported this summer, the pub has been closed since September 1, with builders working around the clock to ensure it reopens in October, just in time for the autumn and winter seasons.

The refurbishment includes substantial updates to the furniture, layout and facilities, as well as a complete refresh of the pub's décor. Further updates will follow to the 14 Grade II-listed en-suite bathrooms, all of which offer stunning views of the Windrush Valley.

Elliot and Kathleen also plan to enhance the pub's food offering by drawing on their experience from some of the world's leading restaurants to create a destination for delicious, home-cooked meals made with local produce.

While the Crees have built an international reputation, their primary focus is on serving the local community. They aim to create a welcoming pub with a menu, drinks list, and bar that acts as a hub for residents.

To celebrate the changes, Rissington locals will be the first to see the refurbished pub at an exclusive, invite-only Locals' Night on October 2, before it officially opens to the public later in the month.

Kathleen Cree-Vincent said: "We are delighted to be working with Brakspear to breathe new life into this wonderful community pub. We want to make The Lamb the jewel in Rissington's crown - a place where everyone feels welcome to enjoy a pint, a meal, or an overnight stay."

Elliot and Kathleen, who have been searching for the right opportunity to take on a Cotswold pub for some time, will also be moving into the pub themselves.

With an impressive CV that includes work at renowned establishments such as London's Kitchen Table, Maaemo in Norway, Clos du Cèdre in France, and Noma in Denmark, they are committed to creating accessible dishes that can be enjoyed by all.

Elliot said: "The menu will reflect the local area. The welcome we've received in Rissington has been fantastic, and there is tremendous support from the village to make The Lamb a success for the long term.

"We simply cannot wait to start cooking and to bring together all that's best about country pubs: great food, great beer, and a wonderful setting."
