Celebrity chef Kerridge backs free school meals for holidays

Michelin-starred chef and former Gloucestershire College student Tom Kerridge says the government should ensure free school meals continue over the school holidays to help disadvantaged children affected by the cost of living crisis.

Kerridge, who was raised in Gloucester, told The Times newspaper: "If parents are working for a six-week period over the summer where childcare is costing more than a day at work, schools have to provide a safe space for these children, including free school meals."

The celebrity chef has teamed up with footballer Marcus Rashford to call 'Full time' on child food poverty.

Kerridge, who starred in the TV series 'Saving Britain's Pubs' which included The Prince Albert in Stroud, said: "We can all see what's coming, we can see the rise in interest rates, we can see the rise in utility bills.

"If you're from a lower-income family, it's a great percentage increase that you'll be spending on utilities, which is absolutely terrifying. There's going to be some huge decisions that people are going to have to make."

The Full Time meals campaign is calling for nutritionally balanced, budget-friendly recipes.
