Top five things to do this weekend in Gloucestershire

Have you run out of things to do this Easter? Check out our top pick.

1# Save money by travelling by Stagecoach Bus

Planning on popping into town with your friends or planning a day out somewhere in Gloucester with the family? Hopping on a Stagecoach Bus might be the cheapest and easiest option.

Since the new year, Stagecoach West have been offering significant discounts for group Dayrider tickets, as well as tickets for passengers under 19 years of age.

Any four passengers of any age who travel together, can save a huge £7.50 when they purchase a group day ticket via the app. That works out as just £1.88 per person - much cheaper than a taxi to go shopping in the Quays or to get into town for a night out.

Travellers up to the age of 19 can also enjoy savings up to £3.50 on their weekly tickets and £14 on a 28-day ticket.

2# Step back to the 1920s for spy thriller

Bishops Cleeve Players are all set to present a spy thriller at the village's Tithe Barn next weekend.

The Scorpion Affair, written and directed by local woman Sandy Newman, is a spy thriller set in a London Cabaret Club in 1920s Soho.

The Stradivari Club is being used to smuggle diamonds and the newly formed MI6 are determined to catch the Russian perpetrators. MI6 have not, however, uncovered the fact that there is a spy at the club and when one of the characters is murdered, they have no idea who might be the murderer.

The cast of 14 play a variety of nationalities, supported by a wonderful backstage crew.

The auditorium will be set out as a cabaret club with live music of the period from local band 'Rhythm Strings'.

3# See the breath-taking blossom on show at Batsford

If you thought arboretums were only for autumn, think again. It's in the spring that the tree collection at Batsford Arboretum really comes into its own - and this year is no exception.

After a relatively mild winter and a warm start to the spring this year, the north Cotswolds' attraction is already experiencing a spectacular display of colour thanks to its magnolia and early flowering cherry collections.

From mid-April, Batsford's blossom display will really reach its peak when star of the show - its Japanese flowering cherry collection - comes into full bloom. Batsford holds the National Collection of Prunus (Sato-Zakura group) cherries, known as Japanese village cherries, with over 120 trees in clusters around the 56 acre arboretum.

4# Enjoy a tribute to the sultriest songstress of all

Jazz vocalist Jo Harrop pays tribute to Peggy Lee, one of the great figures of jazz and American popular song, at Chapel Arts, Cheltenham, this Friday evening.

Peggy Lee had a career spanning six decades. Sinatra called her 'regal' while Duke Ellington called her 'the queen'.

She wrote and sang for Disney's Lady And The Tramp and had a string of hits stretching from her early days with Benny Goodman until the 1990s.

In this wonderful show as part of the Jazz at the Chapel series, Jo Harrop pays tribute to the sultriest songstress of all. She's set to deliver moving renditions of classics such as Fever, Why Don't You Do Right and The Folks Who Live On The Hill. Jo will be accompanied by her band.

5# Discover hidden Cheltenham

Discover little-known facts about some of Cheltenham's best-known buildings and locations whilst solving riddles to get a special Easter treat.

Cheltenham Business Improvement District (BID) has worked with The Cheltenham Trust on the Hidden Cheltenham trail, which gives new insights for locals and visitors alike and there have been a few egg-citing additions to the trail just for Easter.

The Easter Hidden Trail will start on Monday, April 8, and will run every day from 9am-5pm until Easter Monday, April 22.
