Cheltenham Festival of Cycling to feature Gloucester business' inclusive bikes for the disabled

There will be no barrier to getting out on two - or three - wheels at this year's Cheltenham Festival of Cycling thanks to a partnership that involves specialist bike and trike manufacturer Tomcat.

Gloucester Business Park-based Tomcat have partnered with Wheels for All, Leonard Cheshire and Cheltenham Borough Council to produce an all-inclusive cycling track at the event.

The Cheltenham Festival of Cycling takes place on May 19, with Pittville Park hosting the action between 10am and 5pm.

The event will see a range of family-friendly activities take place to showcase the benefits of cycling, with Tomcat highlighting how it can benefit those with disabilities.

With disabled people more likely to be physically inactive and socially isolated than the general population the range of benefits that cycling has to offer are vast.

Tomcat has serviced the disability sector for over 20 years and the organisation's vision is to make cycling accessible to all, by designing innovative trikes suitable for all ages and mobility issues.

The Leonard Cheshire Gloucestershire Wheels for all and Tomcat cycling hub will showcase 20 different adapted bikes and trikes that will be available to hire or try out.

Bob Griffin, MD of Tomcat said, "This is a perfect opportunity for a British trike manufacturer to show that cycling can be inclusive - there is a trike fit for all needs and mobility issues.

"We have worked hard over the last 20 years to bring the latest innovative trikes to the British market and our new adult trike, the Tomcat Bullet range, seems to have captured the imagination."

Tomcat will host the inclusive cycling track alongside Leonard Cheshire and Gloucestershire Wheels for all, an initiative which embraces all children and adults with disabilities.

Mary Clare, project leader, added: "The joy on people's faces is wonderful to see.

"The sense of freedom participants experience means they can't wait to have another go and as soon as one session is over, they ask when the next one will be!

"Coming to the Cheltenham Festival ofCycling and trying out the Leonard Cheshire Gloucestershire Wheels For All adapted bikes will enable you to find out just how inclusive these bikes are."
