Five Valleys owner invests in Cheltenham's Quadrangle

Dransfield Properties, owner of Five Valleys in Stroud, is helping a local business expand into new premises.

Two years ago, Dransfield handpicked an artisan trader line-up for the Borough Market-style hall at Five Valleys. Now it is taking its support one step further by assisting one of those businesses to branch out and expand into Cheltenham.

The Artisan Baker will open its bakery and coffee shop in Cheltenham's Quadrangle development this month, with financial support from its current landlord at Five Valleys in Stroud.

With the regeneration of the former Merrywalks shopping centre in Stroud, Dransfield Properties has assisted more than 30 independent businesses to either expand or start up in a challenging retail climate.

Mark Dransfield, managing director of Dransfield Properties, said: "Ori Hellerstein of The Artisan Baker has built an amazing business up from a small industrial unit in Nailsworth to now serving the majority of people in Stroud who are looking for artisan baked goods.

"We have every confidence the team will experience huge success in Cheltenham, as well as here in Stroud, and we're really happy to be able to support them in that expansion."

Ori Hellerstein will oversee both outlets. His award-winning and fully organic baked products will all be made at the Stroud hub, giving unique training and employment opportunities for the town where it all started.

Ori, who is from Cheltenham himself, thought it was the ideal location to expand his business.

The new coffee shop and bakery will open on October 13, with 60 seats for people to enjoy dining both in and outside the new shop.

Ori Hellerstein said: "We're thrilled to be opening a second outlet in Cheltenham. We are really pleased with the response in Stroud and feel, with the larger space in Cheltenham, we can expand our offering from bakery to coffee shop, offering a slightly wider range of small plates, but with all the same delicious lines of baked goods that you will find with us in Stroud.

"We're grateful for the confidence shown by Mark and Dransfield Properties. It's not an easy time for businesses to take on an expansion in this industry, but we do believe we bring something special to the high street."

The business currently employs 16 people in Stroud and will take on a further nine staff members to help cover the two operations.
