Your chance to take the director's chair
2nd October 2017
Where: Cheltenham Playhouse
When: Tuesday, October 10, for six consecutive weeks
Aspiring actors and directors have the chance to hone their skills at a special course at the Cheltenham Playhouse.
Experienced actor and director John Shirley will be running the practical acting and directing course in the Joan Cross Lounge over six consecutive Tuesdays starting at 7.30 pm on October 10.
Aimed at both experienced performers and beginners, it is a great way to learn new skills. The course is totally practical and every member of the group is expected to act and also direct.
Mr Shirley said: "We examine improvisation and scenes from various plays. Each group within the class presents its work to the others and it is fascinating to see the way in which the same scene can be performed.
"The second half of the course is devoted to the study of a major play, usually The Birthday Party by Pinter. Certain scenes are selected, and we consider the different interpretations that can be applied by actors and directors
"I have run this course for several years. Over one hundred people have attended with varying degrees of experience in theatre.
"They all seem to have found the course both enjoyable and instructive. As a result some people have gone on to direct productions for the first time."
The cost for the full six-week course is £50 (or £40 if you are a theatre member), and places can be booked by calling the box office on 01242 522852.
