Top five things to do in Gloucestershire this weekend

Enjoy the summer while it lasts with our top pick of things to do in and around Gloucestershire this weekend.

1# Head back to the farm at Berkeley Show

Berkeley Show is an annual celebration of all that is great in the Berkeley Vale and the surrounding countryside between the Cotswold escarpment and the River Severn.

After last year's success, show organisers decided to keep the midsummer date of Sunday, June 24.

The format of the show reflects tradition but with an injection of 21st century appeal to encourage the next generation with young families to attend.

This year - the 115th show - focuses on historical, traditional values and highlights the progression of agriculture through the years with displays of machinery from vintage tractors through to the latest farming

Berkeley Show is an affordable, fun and educational day out for all the family.

2# Sizzle in the sun while enjoying international polo at Cirencester Park Polo Club

With the sun set to shine this weekend, a fabulous day of award-winning polo is in prospect in Cirencester.

The Cotswold International Polo Day is being held at Cirencester Park Polo Club on Sunday, June 24, from 11am.

Spectators can enjoy the Warwickshire Cup final which will see some of the best players from around the world battle it out for the iconic trophy.

There's also the International Ladies Tournament, which will see England's top players take on the African nation's best in one of the most prestigious ladies' polo matches.

Visitors can also enjoy a retail village where they can shop for all things equestrian alongside an eclectic mix of stalls offering everything from fashion to holidays.

3# Tantalise your taste buds at Tewkesbury's food and drink festival

A growing two-day food and drink festival in the beautiful setting of Tewkesbury Abbey grounds is taking place this weekend.

The festival includes a food and drink marquee with over 60 stalls offering a wealth of local produce including award-winning cheeses, locally-reared meat, homemade cakes and pastries, local wine, beer and cider plus much more.

The festival also boasts a cookery theatre and a feastival garden full of tantalising treats, live music, and children's entertainment - perfect for a family day out.

4# Party like Pilgrims at Gloucester Cathedral

Gloucester Cathedral is holding a medieval-themed family fun day on Sunday, June 24, to celebrate the completion of Project Pilgrim Phase 1.

Building work has now finished on the ground-breaking £6m project which involved conserving and improving key parts of the Cathedral for visitors and was supported by a £4.6m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Local residents throughout Gloucester are invited to come and see the new Cathedral Green and the fully restored Lady Chapel, as well as exploring the new Tribune Gallery exhibition installation

A range of activities will be available to suit all ages and tastes, including archery, circus performers, stonemason demonstrations, heritage crafts, scaffolding tours, choral music and lots more.

5# Beat the Street in Gloucester

The city of Gloucester has been transformed into a giant game this summer as thousands of residents compete to see if their school, community or business can walk, run or cycle the furthest.

More than 70 special sensors called 'Beat Boxes' have appeared across the city. Players tap the Beat Boxes will cards and fobs to track their journey and earn points for themselves and their team - the more Beat Boxes people swipe the more points they earn.

Schools and community groups across Gloucester are competing against each other to see if they can travel the furthest, climb the leaderboards and win hundreds of pounds worth of sport and fitness equipment.

Families are encouraged to play for their local school while the wider community can create their own teams.

In addition to the leaderboard prizes, registered players can also win 'Lucky Tap' prizes for playing along - including sports and fitness vouchers and experience days.
