Welsh male voice choir to sing for local charity

A male voice choir from Wales will be taking to the stage for a charity performance in aid of local medical charity Cobalt.

Bois Goetre-Hen Male Voice Choir will be singing at Francis Close Hall Chapel, Campus, University of Gloucestershire, Swindon Road, Cheltenham on Friday, October 29, from 7pm until 8.30pm. Tickets will cost £10 and all proceeds will go to the charity.

Established in August 2009, the choir has 60 choristers ranging from 29 to 75 years of age. They have previously performed twice in the Royal Albert Hall. This will be their first public performance since February 2020. Their repertoire includes an eclectic mix of songs including traditional favorites such as Gwahoddiad and Rachie (Bob Yn Sydd Fyddlon) and modern artists including Snow Patrol, Lady Gaga, Crowded House and Radiohead, Sia, Sting and John Lennon.

Welsh male voice choirs originated from chapels and groups that came together to work in the country's mines, shipyards, factories and docks. Bois Goetre-Hen Male Voice Choir was formed in 2009 in the Lower Llynfi Valley. There are approximately 100 such choirs in Wales.

Kirsty Bradbury, Cobalt's fundraising engagement officer, said: "We are delighted to have this amazing male voice choir singing for Cobalt, especially in the beautiful chapel at the University of Gloucestershire. Do come along and join us for a magical evening."
