Exciting weekend of art at Taurus Crafts

Where: Taurus Crafts, Lydney, Glos GL15 6BU

When: July 21-22

Celebrate the creative talent of the Forest of Dean and Wye at Taurus Crafts with their forthcoming weekend of art.

The weekend features a pop-up art exhibition, 13 onsite artisan businesses and a specialist art market dedicated to local independent artists and makers on Sunday, July 22.

Kicking off the weekend of art will be the pop-up art exhibition by Emily Johnson whose country inspired art and animal portraits will be adorning the walls of their function room.

Emily says she has "always being torn between sitting in with a paint set and the call of the countryside, it's not a surprise that I have ended up combining these interests."

The weekend of art culminates in The Art Market, which offers visitors the chance to discover the wealth of talent the local area has to offer, with stalls, activities, food, drink and live music.

To name a few, there will be work of mixed media painter Lisa Dear whose work captivates and evokes a sense of peace and tranquillity. Julie Cannon is an accomplished watercolour painter whose work is translated on to a variety of different mediums. And there is the work of Jayme-Lee Cooper who is inspired by nature all around, and captures mood and season perfectly.

The creative expression isn't limited to the canvas. The centre ran an open call via Facebook asking local musicians to perform at the market.

The line-up will explore a range of musical styles from country, pop, covers and original songs. There will be performances form: AnnTeek, 2CoustiX, Alison Hustwitt, The Uke Hunters, and Tom Atkinson.

There is an opportunity for visitors feeling the creative urge to get hands-on and involved in a free art activity with local artist Warren Day. Visitors can make a mini-masterpiece, to take home, using a wood print transfer technique.

There will also be demonstrations from local potter Derek Lamb and Mike Collins who will be demonstrating their throwing skills on the potter's wheel.

The Art Market is free to enter and is open from 11am until 4pm on Sunday, July 22.
