Unearth spooky surprises at the Museum of Gloucester this week!

Prepare for a journey through history as you uncover the fascinating and mysterious stories of the past in the Halloween exhibition at the Museum of Gloucester.

Discover the secrets of Gloucester's history in the museum's latest display, Buttons, Badges and Blazers.

A museum spokesperson said: "In the spirit of Halloween, our Buttons, Badges and Blazers exhibition has a fantastic collection of costumes from our city's history.

"You'll see what people used to wear long ago and hear the stories behind their outfits. This exhibition includes some seriously spooky stuff, like a real nurse's apron from the blood-soaked battlefields of World War One. This apron isn't just any old piece of clothing - it's covered in the blood of the brave soldiers she helped.

"But wait, there's more! After visiting the new exhibition see if you can find the haunted spinning wheel that some people say moves all on its own. It's almost like a mischievous ghost is playing with it. Will you be the one to catch it in action? Come and find out!

"As you wander around the museum, watch out for George, the friendly ghost! George is a bit mischievous. He likes to lock doors and give museum staff a little scare. He's a playful spirit who makes the museum spooky and fun! For an extra dose of ghostly excitement, don't hesitate to ask one of our staff members if they have a chilling tale to share about their own experiences with George!"

Visitors can also enjoy a free monster hunt in collaboration with Kids in Museums! Search for five hidden monsters in the museum, and if you find them all, you'll earn a free sticker and bookmark.

Get creative by designing your own monster on the back of the trail sheet, then share it on social media using the hashtag #EerieMonsterMuseumTour and tag @kidsinmuseums for a chance to win five fantastic books. Unleash your inner artist and have a blast!

The spokesperson added: "Join us at the Museum of Gloucester this Halloween and dive deep into the secrets of our city's past, along with all the cool mysteries that make our museum special. Whether you're a history buff, a costume enthusiast, or just looking for an eerie adventure, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

"Don't miss out on this amazing experience. Bring your friends, dress up in your favourite Halloween costume, and have a blast exploring Gloucester's history.

"Make a spine-chillingly good donation to fuel our exhibitions; they truly mean the world to us and enable us to unravel fascinating historical stories!"

Buttons, Blazers and Badges is open until 7th January 2024.
