Tredworth Infants to premiere film at Gloucester Guildhall cinema

Over the last two months pupils at Tredworth Infants Academy have been creating their own film and musical soundtrack with nationally renowned artists Vilk Collective as part of a new initiative by Gloucester Guildhall.

The film and soundtrack will celebrate the cultural heritage of Tredworth Infants pupils and their families as part of the school's annual term dedicated to the theme 'Roots' .

Children have been learning how to create and record music as well as bringing in photos, stories, objects and traditions and sharing them with their friends.

The film will be shared at Gloucester Guildhall cinema on Tuesday, November 19, at staggered times.

Vilk Collective said: "We are so honoured to work with the pupils and teachers at Tredworth Infants Academy. They have been so generous in sharing their amazing and diverse cultural heritages, songs, languages and stories!

"There has been so much shared creativity, joy and laughter in these workshops - it is a very inspirational school to work in and we look forward to sharing the film with you!"

A school spokesperson said: "As a school we are passionate about celebrating the rich heritage of our families and wider school community. It has been a pleasure to work alongside the Vilk Collective and the Guildhall to give our children's stories an opportunity to be shared.

"Our children are a shining example of appreciating the unique and diverse backgrounds of others. These workshops have created a real buzz in school which we hope to capture in the final film and exhibition."

Red Isaac, senior producer at Gloucester Guildhall, said: "Gloucester Guildhall is passionate about the stories that matter to communities. That's why this year we flipped the traditional artist commission and instead invited community groups to apply to work with an artist to platform a story that was important to them.

"Tredworth Infant and Nursery Academy wanted to try a new way of bringing their annual 'Roots' theme to life. We worked together to commission Vilk Collective who were the perfect fit. It's been an utter joy to support a project which celebrates the rich cultures we have on our doorstep - the children have shown us how we should all be together in this world, they give us all hope."
