Susan puts on a Stroud show
By Simon Hacker | 6th September 2024
A celebration of new perspectives by acclaimed artist Susan Kettler is now on show at Stroud's Lansdown Hall and Gallery and is running this week until September 9.
Billed as Everyone has a Place, the event which is staged as a joint exhibition with Malmesbury painter Joanna Billingham, showcases new work from Susan's Tickle My Tump Absurdity Series.
After studying for a BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths University, Susan received a post graduate Printmaking Diploma from Central St Martins and has recently completed an MA in Drawing for Fine Art Practice from Oxford Brookes University.
Born in the USA, she has lived in London, Caracas, Andalucia and Los Angeles before settling in Stroud, where she now lives permanently.
Susan said: "My paintings and drawings focus on the landscapes around me and found objects I have collected over the years. The objects, whether natural or man-made, tend to be slight and often disgarded fragments.
"But whether I've had them one day or 40 years, they take on a significance for me and often recur in various forms throughout my work, creating a sense of my own history the more I use them."
Exhibition entry is free.
● Lansdown Hall and Gallery is owned by Stroud Town Council and run by an entirely separate charity for the benefit of the community, with two part-time staff members and four trustees. Many of the people working at the hall and gallery are volunteers, and the venue operates on a not-for-profit basis. Revenue from hiring the hall or gallery is used to pay for running the spaces, for the provision of skilled technical staff at events and ongoing maintenance.
