Stroud Show steeped in local tradition
By David Wood | 20th July 2018
Where: Stratford Park, Stroud
When: Saturday, July 21, 11am-5pm
The Stroud District Horticultural & Agricultural Show (the Stroud Show), which is steeped in local tradition, takes place this weekend
Started in Victorian times, the show demonstrates local skills, crafts, and produce from across the region, from farming, pets, flowers and fruits to handicrafts, photography and art.
Visitors should head for the top field in Stratford Park for a great day out.
If you enjoy seeing and handling pets and other animals, looking at numerous stalls, finding out about local organisations, or just want to enjoy food and drink and entertain your children on fairground rides, this is the show for you!
There will also be classic and vintage vehicles on show as well as live music of all sorts, for listeners and performers.
Emerging local musical talents will be competing in the Battle of the Bands competition for the chance to feature on BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
Another attraction which is sure to draw a crowd is the tug of war contest which is being reintroduced this year as part one of a series.
Stroud, Gloucestershire, used to compete with Stroud Australia and Stroud USA and Stroud Canada for brick throwing, rolling pin throwing (women), and welly wanging, and hold the championship from the last event some years ago.
In 2020, Stroud Show celebrates its 150th anniversary and Stroud Australia its 60th anniversary, so it could be a great excuse for hosting a new world championship!
