Show will be a cut above the rest
29th September 2017
Where: Cheltenham Playhouse
When: October 14-21
As the nights draw in and mists descend this autumn, Gloucestershire's oldest dramatic society brings you the dark tale of Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The show runs for eight performances at Cheltenham's intimate, allegedly haunted, theatre, the Playhouse.
One of the darkest musicals ever written, Sweeney Todd: A Musical Thriller is the unsettling tale of a Victorian barber who returns home to London after 15 years of exile to take revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life.
Sweeney Todd, whose real name is Benjamin Barker, uses his new alias to resume work in his barber shop above Mrs Lovett's struggling pie shop.
After swearing vengeance against the man who tore his family apart, Todd and Mrs Lovett plot an 'unsavoury' plan that benefits them both and leads them down a dangerous and thrilling path with deadly consequences.
Widely acknowledged as Stephen Sondheim's most perfect score, Sweeney Todd is lush, operatic, and full of soaring beauty, pitch-black comedy and stunning terror.
This multi-award winning gothic musical has to be the pinnacle of Sondheim's work with unforgettable numbers including Worst Pies in London, A Little Priest, Epiphany and The Ballad of Sweeney Todd.
Riding high on their reputation of successful, quality musical entertainment, do not miss CODS' last show of 2017.
Performance dates are October 14-21 with no show on Sunday 15 (matinee at 2pm on Saturday 21).
