Popular charity summer festival returns to pub

This August bank holiday weekend, The Royal pub in Charlton Kings will be opening its doors to its much-loved annual Summer Festival, now in its 13th year.

A variety of entertainment, food and drink will be laid on across the weekend, with something for all the family to enjoy.

All funds raised from the weekend will go to Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, who provide expert and compassionate palliative care to people living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families.

The event kick-starts this evening (Friday) when attendees will be treated to three days of food, drink, and music, with a fun-filled family day to finish.

On Friday, there will be a beer and cider festival with a variety of tipples to sample, as well as a pizza oven to keep everyone well fed late into the evening. The pizza, beer and cider will then continue to flow on into the Saturday to ensure no one misses out!

On Sunday, the pub's beloved Royal Dog Show sponsored by Murphy's Dog Grooming will return. There will be several categories for prize pooches to enter including 'most handsome chap' and 'prettiest lady'.

After the prizes have been awarded, Monkey Jam will be taking to the stage and providing tunes to get everyone dancing into the evening. Later in the evening Sue Ryder volunteers will be announcing the winners of the tombola and raffles, with some wonderful prizes to be won, before the Mega Quiz begins at 8pm.

When Monday arrives, the garden of The Royal will be filled with music all afternoon, with acts including Hambling & Lloyd, the Rhythm Slingers, Mark Walby Duo, Steel Weasels and Slowjin taking to the stage.

Ensuring the little ones are entertained, the Music Man will also be performing, plus there will be face painting for the youngsters and the young at heart!

Emma North, general manager of The Royal, said: "We are delighted to be hosting our annual Summer Festival for the 13th year. It is always a wonderful weekend full of singing, dancing, and fun for all the family.

"We are also really looking forward to our dog show - this event is always the highlight of the weekend, and certainly not one to miss! We are also delighted to be supporting Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice once again - it is a cause so close to many of us at The Royal and in the local area. We greatly admire and appreciate the work that they do."

Alysia Cameron-Price, community fundraising manager at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, said: "We're so grateful to The Royal pub for supporting us for an incredible thirteenth year with their Summer Festival.

"Thanks to supporters like them and with the backing of the local community, we can continue to be there for families when it matters most. It's set to be a great weekend so get on down there and show your support."
