Open-Air Tuckwell Festival is back this summer

This August the Bacon Theatre kick-starts its summer season with a festival line-up that will have you laughing your socks off, singing your heart out and gripped in wonder.

The Open-Air Tuckwell Festival in the idyllic, stone-built Tuckwell Amphitheatre, also marks the theatre's reopening, after what will have been 16 months of darkness during the pandemic - and they cannot wait to welcome audiences back.

Opening on Tuesday, August 3, with a 'Cinema Under the Stars' screening of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, starring two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks.

The second night of cinema on Tuesday, August 10, is box office smash hit Pretty Woman - to miss out on that night would be a "Big Mistake. Big. Huge."!

Festival highlights for theatre lovers include Folksy's enchanting production of Shakespeare's The Tempest; Slapstick Picnic's entertaining summer tea party invite to Oscar Wilde's classic The Importance of Being Earnest; The Pantaloons' hilariously innovative adaptation of Jane Ausen's masterpiece Pride & Prejudice; and Tethered Wits' offering of George Bernard Shaw's family-friendly classic Pygmalion.

For music lovers, the theatre is delighted to welcome back Heartbreak Productions, along with the Nick Carraway quartet, with a stylish adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. This will be a fabulous evening of jazz - and bubbles, to mark 100 years since prohibition.

A Tuckwell regular, Cheltenham's very own pianist and vocalist Peter Gill will return for his ever-popular Swinging Summer Evening. Be prepared for a supreme night of piano pumping, foot stomping music!

There are also some fantastically fun family show favourites for kids - both big and little - with a David Walliams best-seller - Heartbreak Productions' Mr Stink - to end this year's festival on Sunday, August 15.

Tickets are selling fast and may be bought online at bacontheatre.co.uk  or from the Box Office on 01242 258002.
