Labradors and retrievers invited to charity romp in Cirencester Park
By David Wood | 12th September 2019
Where: Cirencester Park
When: Sunday, September 15, meet from 10am
The Countess Bathurst's labrador, Dora, is hosting 'The Grand Labrador and Retriever Romp' in Cirencester Park on Sunday (September 15) in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Dora, whilst not usually a very competitive dog, has decided to try and beat Lady Bathurst's previous fundraising targets by inviting every single labrador, golden, flat-coated, curly-coated, Chesapeake Bay and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling - basically anything with the name 'Retriever' in their pedigree - in the whole of the UK to join what she hopes to be the biggest Dog Walk yet in Cirencester Park.
The Countess's own mobile coffee shop business, 'Beano in the Park' is the starting point for the walk within the beautiful surroundings of Cirencester Park.
Beano is a glorious converted horse trailer based on 'The Broad Ride', the famous horse chestnut lined avenue that runs for over five miles from the town of Cirencester to the village of Sapperton.
It has already been the host to many charity events and has become renowned for holding similar same breed dog walks, seeing hundreds of dogs congregating at the top of Cecily Hill.
Spaniels, dachshunds and rescue dogs have already set the pace over the summer and now it's the turn of the retrievers.
The park is open to the public all year round, and while dogs are welcome, they are limited to one area, so this walk will also give participants the opportunity to 'bend the rules' and explore further into the estate with the choice of three routes, a shorter walk, a medium one and a longer route.
Entrance to the park and to join in the walk is free - however there will be a bucket collection for the charity, so Dora is encouraging everyone to come along in the spirit of autumn fun, sunshine and giving to help her make those buckets rattle for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Timings are as follows:
10am-10.30am: Arrive for general meet 'n' greet at 'Beano In The Park', just beyond Cecily Hill gates inside Cirencester Park.
10.55am: Welcome from Lady B, and, of course, Dora.
11am: The Grand Labrador and Retriever Romp group photo - that should be interesting!
11.15am: Start - Paw Count - and bucket collection for The Guide Dogs for the Blind. Completely voluntary, but Dora is hoping to raise as much as she can for the boys and girls who undergo the extraordinary training they receive, in order to change people's lives.
Finish: Whenever you like! Depends which route you have taken.
